The Process
The pricing of my knives mostly reflects the time it takes to make them from start to finish. On my page you might see two knives of the same design, that differ in price. Knives take quite a while to make, sometimes even small features can add many hours to the overall build.
I also do all of my own heat treatment of blades in-house. Heat treating of stainless steels is a multi-stage process that requires a full day or two of intense focus and labor. The materials and equipment required for proper heat treating are also not easy on the wallet!
Materials
For some materials, there isn't much variation in price (g10, micarta, some hardwoods). But premium materials will affect the overall cost of some knives. Small batch or hand made materials, some exotic woods, carbon fiber, and jewlery-grade materials are some examples.
